Mike, according to the specs you can get away with the LS-22 and an A1's heft. It also comes with a free LANC controller that's pretty neat. Plus, it's a quite a bit cheaper rig, too.

But I decided to go with its bigger brother to have something a little more steady and substantial in the studio or out in the wind... and I should be set if I ever want to attach a small crane arm to it. I love those crane shots!

Thanks, Chuck-ster. Yup, 7-8 gallons of oil pouring out of the Detroit would look great in hi-def! But you might wanna wait for the A1's little bro, the HV-20 to come out to haul under Da Bus for filming your wrenchin' ventures. It does HDV and 24p, but at "Handicam" size.

Congrats on the new gear. I've been thinking about picking up an A1 also. I'm in the same boat you were in: always playing w/ video, but never had decent gear.

I've also been looking at the Libec tripods. I was originally thinking about the LS-22. Any reason in particular that tilted you toward the LS-38?
